Fall of Jerusalem

Speaker: Bill Santos

Immediately beyond the Kidron Valley, to the east of Jerusalem, is the Mount of Olives which commands striking views of the city and the surrounding country. From this vantage point Jesus looked out over Jerusalem. The city was teeming with visitors for it was the time of the Passover and from all the lands the children of Jacob had come to celebrate this national festival. In full view were the buildings of the magnificent temple. The rays of the setting sun had a dazzling effect on the white marble walls of the pride of the Jewish nation. What child of Israel would not contemplate this scene with national pride and admiration – but the Bible tells us in Luke 19:41

“When He approached Jerusalem, He saw the city and wept over it.”

Jesus, the King of Kings, the Redeemer of the world was overwhelmed with a sudden and mysterious sadness for Jerusalem – so He cried.
